Wash day
(ALL PRODUCT THAT WE RECOMMEND CAN BE PURCHASED AT Boardroom Hairstylists)
Brushing out your hair before you hop in the shower will help prevent any matting or tangling (We suggest the Shiela Stotts Brush)
Saturate all of your hair very well with water, you will need a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner to protect your extensions. (We recommend Kevin Murphy’s Hydrate-Me wash and rinse)
Apply shampoo and massage into your scalp , make sure to cleanse well in-between your rows of extension hair. Depending on how many days you’ve gone in between washing, a second shampoo might be necessary.
It is important that you rinse out all of the product very well, leftover shampoo or conditioner can result in buildup around your rows.
Applying conditioner focusing on the mids and ends of your natural hair as well as your extension hair. If you have trouble saturating your hair with the conditioner, you can always use your Sheila Stotts brush to comb it through to ensure even distribution.
Again, it is very important that you thoroughly rinse all product out of your hair and in-between your rows to avoid build up!
Detangling and product application
Detangling is very important when it comes to extending the life of your extensions
Apply a sulfate free detangler liberally to your hair. (We recommend Untangled from Kevin Murphy)
Using your Sheila Stotts brush , start from the ends of your hair and work your way up. Do not yank on your extension hair with the brush, it is important to be gentle so you are not adding any extra tension to your natural hair or to the delicate wefts of extensions. This will help extend the life of your extension hair!
You can clip your natural hair out of the way to expose your row(s) so it is easier to detangle all the way to the top of your wefts.
Drop your natural hair down and continue to detangle the rest.
Once all of your hair is untangled, you can follow up with the styling products that your stylist has suggested for you.
Finish off with a clear / silicone free oil to the mids and ends of your hair. (We recommend Smooth & Shine Anti Frizz Serum from Eleven)
Things to Avoid
Avoid getting sunscreen in your hair!! When sunscreen is absorbed into the hair and exposed to the UV light, it causes the cells to break down in a process known as Reactive Oxygen Species. This is what can cause a color change in your extensions. This could result in orange or pink spots. (We recommend Bare Republic Sunscreen)
